White stuff

Hello Coalitionites,

Reg here, Just back from a very amazing summer of bikes and welcomed home by some unfortunate weather out in the hills.  I was hoping to get reunited with the group and get some bikes pointed downhill this evening but mother nature has other plans.  Snow has hit Moose and is still lingering.  Maybe not the best situation for riding tonight but the long range forecast does offer a glimmer of hope. Fingers crossed for next week.

I am also thinking, if it is plausable and if there is enough interest, that a wknd day trip to Mt 7 before the season rolls to a halt would be a good way to make up for the circumstances that have made our Wednesday nights challenging.  Let me know via email if that interests you.  (regmullett@hotmail.com)

A big thanks to Dan for being the man and keeping the good Coalition times rolling in fine form during my absence.  We will be co running the Coalition for the remainder of the year.

Enjoy Turkey and be truly thankful as we are all very fortunate!

Cheers,

Reg

Coalitionites....

Here is the picture from the Elbow Ranger Station rain gauge....looks like Moose got hammered pretty good yesterday......

Unless someone else has some better info and even though I'm itching for a ride, I think we should cancel Coalition for tonight....so lets hope that next week is better....

Coalitionites....

I was planning on riding tomorrow evening (Wednesday) but there are two challenges with making this happen.

1. The weather....I will check in the morning, but it seems to me there was a decent amount of rain in various parts of the City and West in the foothills. If there was in fact significant rainfall, I have my doubts that it will be dryish by tomorrow evening.

2. The van.....our beloved shuttle rig has been serviced and is ready to go, however, due to other commitments, I was unable to make it up to the North side of town to pick it up in the last few days. I doubt I will have an opportunity to make this happen tomorrow, so unless something changes, we'll need to go with an alternate shuttle truck.

So here's what I'm thinking.....if you're interested in riding tomorrow evening, please fire me an email as soon as you can tomorrow or tonight, then, if you have a decent sized truck and are willing to shuttle with it (we'll pay you gas money this time), please let me know as well.

If the rain isn't too significant, we have enough people, and a way up the mountain, then I'd say we go for it.

There's a chance I'll get stuck at work, so if there are a few of you who want to ride and have a way up the mountain, I'll do my best to coordinate for you so at least some of us get some laps in.....

Thanks,

Dan

Gents,

Unfortunately we are unable to make tonight's ride happen....keep those lights charged because we will finally get in some nights laps one of these weeks....hopefully next week!

G'morning Coalitionites!

This week is currently up in the air as I am out with the flu and Reg is out of town and may not make it back in time to run the show this evening.

Given that we haven't ridden in a while, I'm also unsure of the interest for our Wednesday nights...

Shoot me an email if you're interested in riding tonight and I'll do what I can to see about pulling something together. The sooner you let me know the better......

Hello Coalitionites!

Just an update for you on what's happening this week and in the weeks to come.....

Both Reg and I are back in town and looking to keep momentum on our Wednesday evening rides well into the fall. Many Thanks to Regan for taking over the duties in my absence!

Our beloved shuttle rig is currently in the shop for some much needed TLC therefore we will not be riding this week.

Everyone has 7 days to purchase appropriate lighting gear as we have many a Wednesday night worth of riding left before the road closes in December!

Wednesday's Ride Cancelled thin Week

Unfortunetly this week I am being pull away for work so will not be able to commit to driving the van. Sorry folks.

Last week showed that even with fading August light and the end of summer vacation we could still find a comitted crew to pound out 4 laps in the daylight.

With the fall in full bloom it's time to charge up the headlamps!! Next week lights will be in full effect.

MMBTS Trail Day this Week

Hey Folks,
With MMBTS likely needing the van for the trail day I think it's best to cancel this weeks ride and shift efforts to spreading good Karma back to the trails.

Hope to see everyone out at the trail day!

Inform below:

One last chance to give back to the trails you love during the long summer nights. We will all meet at Ing's Mine Parking Lot at 7:00 pm. Please be on time for your chance at prizes from our Friends at DAKINE. Special attention will be given to T-dub to get it ready for this weekend's coming race. Are you a racer? Come out and get personal with the trail, you can't complain about a bad berm or a rough section because now is your chance to fix it just to your liking.

Bring you own snacks and drinks as there are only a couple of hours to work until dark. MMBTS will provide tools and projects galore. Don't forget, all volunteers are being recorded for even more prize draws at the end of the year. Plus, the karma you build will get you down the trail with the biggest smile on your face every time you pass the section you helped create.

Hello Coalitionites!

I will be away beginning Wednesday of this week for 3 Wednesdays. In my absence Regan Moffatt will be taking over. He will be posting here if he is able to lead the charge on the upcoming Coalition nights....if you don't see anything posted here the Coalition will not be running....This Wednesday is a trail night and I would encourage everyone to come out and help dig....if Regan is able perhaps a few laps will be thrown down prior to digging....

Ride on!

****UPDATE****

Gents,

To the best of my knowledge, Moose recieved approximately 2.5mm in the last 24 hours.Given the decent turn out so far, I'm game to keep the van running....However, in the event we determine that the trails are too muddy I will be calling it a night early.

-Dan

Hello Coalitionites,

For those of you who were unable to join us last week, you sure missed out! With only four of us to fill the van and no one waiting for us at Ing's, we were heading up the mountain by 6pm and crushed four laps (3 laps/person with everyone taking one hit) by about 8:45 pm and were on the road home again. Not only was absolute efficiency achieved, we were the only four people on the mountain (with the exception of a few XC riders)....

Unfortunately, this week the weather looks unstable at best. I don't want to cancel too early, so let's plan on riding tomorrow night and I'll make the call by 2pm if we're going to cancel.

Once again, email confirmation is required with a cut-off of 3:00pm.... (daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com)

We'll be leaving my place at 5:15ish and will head over to Ing's if necessary for 6:05ish.

For any new members with questions....please don't hesitate to email me!

See you all tomorrow!

-Dan

Hello Coalitionites,

I hope you all had a stellar long weekend!

Once again the 5 lap minimum was achieved and made it home at a decent hour.

Having driven through the Moose area last night, efficiency will have to be at an all-time high in order for us to pull off 5 laps without it getting too dark on the last lap.....so come prepared for yet another 5 laps of Wednesday night goodness....

Once again we will meet at 5:15pm at Big Dan's house in the SW (Near Highway 8, Sarcee Trail, & Glenmore Intersection - Address will be provided via email to those who respond) or 6:06pm at Ing's Mine.

An email confirmation is required by 3:00pm August 8, 2012 (daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com). Seats are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Don't forget your $10/person/evening to keep the van running!

See you Wednesday!

Hello Coalition,

Last week our 5 lap minimum was once again achieved and despite a few bails and a broken brake, good times were had by all. We'll be looking for a repeat of 5 laps again this week, hopefully with less bodily injury and bike damage.

Given that the forecast is uncertain, in the event I receive info indicating that the trails are too wet to ride I will post an update here by 2:00pm tomorrow.

Otherwise, once again we will meet at 5:15pm at Big Dan's house in the SW (Near Highway 8, Sarcee Trail, & Glenmore Intersection - Address will be provided via email to those who respond) or 6:06pm at Ing's Mine.

An email confirmation is required by 3:00pm July 25, 2012 (daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com). Seats are filled on a first come, first served basis.

See you tomorrow!

Let's Try Again!

Hello Coalition,

Pending any beta indicating that Moose got hammered with rain tonight, and given the hot day forecast for tomorrow, we'll be riding tomorrow evening.

5:15pm at Big Dan's house in the SW (Near Highway 8, Sarcee Trail, & Glenmore Intersection - Address will be provided via email to those who respond).
6:05pm at Ing's Mine

An email confirmation is required by 3:00pm July 18, 2012 (daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com). Seats are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Apparently the bugs are pretty vicious so don't forget some spray. Water might be good too given the heat.

See you tomorrow!

COALITION TONIGHT CANCELLED -A Little Riding & A Little Digging

COALITION TONIGHT CANCELLED DUE TO LOW ATTENDANCE.

Not sure if the bugs, heat, or digging trail is the cause, but I've only received one confirmation for tonight as of 1:30pm today, so I have decided to cancel the ride tonight....gas gets awfully expensive and shuttling difficult with only 2 people riding.

Sorry for the inconvenience if you were planning on coming but hadn't gotten back to me yet. Next week I'll institute a cut off to ensure I don't have to do the last minute thing.

Please remember that there is a Trail Evening tonight....the more the merrier!

Hopefully the numbers are better next week....

-Dan

Hello Coalition,

What a sweet evening of riding was enjoyed by all last week. If I'm not mistaken the first 5 lap evening occurred even with some flats on the trail. We got home late, but there were smiles all around.

This Wednesday, we'll be giving back by joining MMBTS for their Stampede Trail Day that starts at 7pm. This means that we should be able to get at least one lap in prior to some digging time, and at least one lap following the trail day. We'll play it by ear, but bikes will be ridden.

5:15pm at Big Dan's house in the SW (Near Highway 8, Sarcee Trail, & Glenmore Intersection - Address will be provided via email to those who respond).
6:05pm at Ing's Mine

An email confirmation is required (daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com). Seats are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Apparently the bugs are pretty vicious so don't forget some spray. Water might be good too given the heat.

Let's ride/dig/ride!

Big Dan the Man

Hello Coalition,

A sweet evening of ripping bikes last Wednesday.  4 laps and no shuttle hits for anyone as Peter Keats vollied his evening to drive us whilst he is recovering from a wrist injury.  Happy healing Pedro and many thanks yet again.

I will be taking a little bit of a hiatus from running the Coalition for the next 6 weeks as I am luckily hitting the road to pursue much biking.  Its been awesome getting to know all the new Coalition peeps and I am looking forward to witnessing the progression after a summer of Wednesday evening rides. Get amped for a stong fall season and if you don't already own lights I suggest you start looking into getting some.

Big "Dan the Man" will be stepping in to run the show while I am away.  If you could confirm VIA email to Dan for tmw's ride that would be mucho appreciated.  Dan can be contacted at daniel.nieuwenhuis@gmail.com.   The plan for this week is to still meet at my house at 5 if you still want to carpool from the city or 530ish out at Ings mine.  Dan will inform for future Coalition evenings via the blog.  Many Thanks Dan... I hope y'all easily get into a 5 lap minimum rhythm.

Have a sweet Summer and go ride your bike,

Cheers,

Reg

BIKES!!!

Hello Coalition,

Well, last week was a great Wed and inaugural evening out at Moose.  After a sloppy first lap on Shaft, we decided it best to give the trails some time to dry out, so we teamed up with the MMBTS trail night on Family Guy for a few hours to get our trail karma back.  110 new meters of bench-cut were completed that evening.  Keep it coming and if you haven't had you opportunity to get intimate with a pick and move some dirt then just speak up.  We can hook you up.  email info@mmbts.com.  A couple Coalition stars in Rob and Sean spent the whole evenin digging.  No democracy for these cats for first three hits this week.

With a hour and half of daylight left the trails were looking dry again, so we decided to captivate on the longest day of the year and snag a couple more laps.   A quick rip on JohnGuy and the riding stoke was back in a flash.  Other than the shock from sharing a berm with a black bear I could sense that we are going to gel well as a group this season.  Then it was a final dusk run on the longest day of the year down Toothless.  Good times.

This week hopefully the trails are a little drier and we can up the lap count accordingly.  5 in Bowness or 530ish at Ings mine.  Please send me an email if you are coming at regmullett@hotmail.com.  The Coalition is a little more popular this year so I will have to do a first to reply - first to have a seat reserved basis.

Cheers,

Reg

Wednesday Solstice Moose laps

Hello Coalition,

Its the longest day of the year this Wednesday lets get at it.  Moose laps unless the weather really messes with our plans.  I say we commit regardless and get an onsite assessment.  If its really wet we could team up with the Hill Family and assist on the Family guy build for a couple of hours.

Thinking 5 in Bowness or 6 at Ings mine.  An email heads up is mucho appreciated.

Lets ride,

Reg

2012 shredding

Hello Coalition,

Its time to get the season rolling.

This year we are fortunate enough to have access to the MMBTS van graciously donated by GSL Chev city for use on our Weekly shuttle nights.  I know you will all be missing the gnome, lack of rear windows and sketchy atmosphere of the pil van of previous years but times are a changing.

I wanted to do a little poll on what night works best for everyone.  Tuesday or Wednesday?  If you could please inform in comments or via email that would be appreciated.

I was thinking this Wednesday would be a great time to start the shuttle season at Moose.  Current forecast isn't the best but may still be manageable.  Please confirm if you are in via email at regmullett@hotmail.com.  6 at Ings mine.  We can also arrange a car pool from the city if there is plenty of interest for this week.

Cheers,

Reg
